RIJAG Obtains UN Grounds Pass at United Nations Headquarters

Research Institute for Japan’s Globalization (RIJAG), an affiliated organization of the Institute for International Strategy and Information Analysis, Inc. (IISIA) and a holder of Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has officially obtained a UN Grounds Pass (annual pass) for access to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.
Through this accreditation, RIJAG has established a foundation for continuous engagement with various meetings and dialogues held at the United Nations Headquarters and participated in the “11th Annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum 2026)” held on May 6–7, 2026.
The STI Forum is an official United Nations platform dedicated to advancing discussions on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through science, technology, and innovation (STI). The Forum brings together government officials, international organizations, researchers, private-sector representatives, and civil society stakeholders from around the world.
RIJAG is currently advancing research and practical implementation initiatives centered on the concept of “AI-enabled governance” under the leadership of its Representative Director, Takeo Harada. This initiative seeks to integrate policy design, implementation, and evaluation through AI and data-driven approaches while exploring new governance architectures transitioning from centralized to decentralized systems.
In parallel, RIJAG is promoting collaborative research projects with the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, conducting practical regional initiatives in the Hiroshima area, and participating in international dialogues with the United Nations University (UNU) concerning Generative AI and diplomacy.
Going forward, RIJAG and IISIA will continue actively contributing Japanese perspectives and policy proposals to international discussions, including those within the United Nations system, while further advancing activities aimed at realizing a sustainable and inclusive international society in the age of AI under the理念 of “Pax Japonica.”
In addition, from the perspective of cultivating the next generation of global leaders, RIJAG plans to create opportunities for outstanding student interns to participate in UN-related meetings and international policy processes, thereby fostering environments in which younger generations can directly engage with the realities of global governance and international policymaking.
